Oldroyd B, and not A?

چکیده
We examine Oldroyd’s 1950 paper On the Formulation of Rheological Equations State (Oldroyd, 1950) in which he introduced upper and lower convected time-derivatives, along with Oldroyd-A Oldroyd-B model fluids. Those developments are placed context prior ideas his own subsequent papers on constitutive equations. The choice between A B models is addressed by looking at micro-structural studies, finding that something appropriate. Finally some refinements discussed terms elastic-dumbbell model.

Existence and Approximation of a (regularized) Oldroyd-b Model
We consider the finite element approximation of the Oldroyd-B system of equations, which models a dilute polymeric fluid, in a bounded domain D ⊂ R, d = 2 or 3, subject to no flow boundary conditions. Our schemes are based on approximating the velocity field with continuous piecewise quadratics and either (a) piecewise constants or (b) continuous piecewise linears for the pressure and the symme...
متن کاملRemarks on Oldroyd-b and Related Complex Fluid Models
We prove global existence and uniqueness of solutions of Oldroyd-B systems with relatively small data in Rd, in a large functional setting (Cα ∩ L1). This is a stability result, solutions select an equilibrium and converge exponentially to it. Large spatial derivatives of the initial density and stress are allowed, provided the L∞ norm of the density and stress are small enough. We prove global...

We investigate a new research area: we are interested in the ultimate thermodynamic cost of computing from x to y. Other than its fundamental importance, such research has implications for future miniaturiza-tion of VLSI chips reducing the energy dissipation below kT (thermal noise), and the similarity distance problem in pattern recognition. It turns out that the theory of thermodynamic cost o...
متن کاملEmergence of singular structures in Oldroyd-B fluids
Numerical simulations reveal the formation of singular structures in the polymer stress field of a viscoelastic fluid modeled by the Oldroyd-B equations driven by a simple body force. These singularities emerge exponentially in time at hyperbolic stagnation points in the flow and their algebraic structure depends critically on the Weissenberg number. Beyond a first critical Weissenberg number t...
متن کاملNumerical approximation of viscoelastic Oldroyd-B flows in curved pipes
The aim of this paper is to study a finite element numerical approximation of steady flows of an incompressible viscoelastic Oldroyd-B fluid in curved pipes of arbitrary cross-section and curvature ratio. Using rectangular toroidal coordinates, existence and uniqueness of approximated solutions are proved as well as a priori error estimates, under a natural restriction on the pipe curvature ratio.
